Hello, I'm Andrew

A senior designer who came up through kitchens, then UX.

I've spent the last six years designing data-rich mobile and web products — most recently as the senior UX designer behind Arity's mobile suite and the AI design practice the rest of the team builds on. Before that I led service and bar programs at Union Square Hospitality Group in New York, and somewhere in between I rebuilt the digital flagship for a small heritage stone-mill maker in Maine.

What I believe

Four things I keep coming back to.

  • Care, then craft.

Every interface I ship is read by someone tired, distracted, or trying to do something hard. That posture shapes every decision — from copy tone to error states to keyboard order.

  • Calm under data.

Telematics, partner data, model output — the more there is, the more the user wants the experience to feel quiet. I treat calm as a craft skill, not a vibe.

  • Build the practice, not just the file.

Pattern libraries, AI skills, sprint formats. The biggest leverage I've had at Arity has come from making the team faster, not just shipping my own files.

  • Hospitality is design.

Five years in Michelin-starred service taught me that an experience is the sum of every micro-choice — eye contact, tone of voice, the angle of a glass. The web is just the same problem on a different surface.

A short version

The arc.

2015 – 2020

Hospitality, New York

Lead mixologist and service-design contributor across Union Square Hospitality Group, including the inaugural team for the Whitney Museum of American Art restaurant. Two doors away from the kitchen, I learned that the hardest, most fundamental skill is making someone feel taken care of.

2021 – 2022

New American Stone Mills, Maine

A contract engagement that became a full digital rebuild — heuristic analysis, redesigned web flow, rewritten three 75-page manuals. My first end-to-end client UX engagement, and a reminder that brand voice is the same job as content design.

2022

General Assembly, UX Immersive

Twelve-week intensive — research, IA, prototyping, testing, design systems. The structured grammar that's underneath everything I've shipped since.

2022 – Present

Arity

Started on the internal advertising platform. Promoted to Senior, where I now own UX for the mobile suite and built the AI design practice — Cursor user guides, an AI-friendly Figma pattern library, brand voice skills, AI onboarding for non-designers, and a sprint format the rest of the team plugs into.

Senior or Lead UX role, remote-first.

If you're hiring for a designer who can ship mobile, partner with engineering as a peer, and bring an AI design practice with them — I'd love to talk.
